Stefan Hieronimus and Rainer Wacker will traverse Greenland and Antarctica in eight months only afoot and without using any other conveyances ("by fair means"). They will cross both earth poles at their widest distance - a trip

The crossing of the Greenland inland ice at its widest point - unsupported - has been done by only one expedition before. Other expeditions used "kites" (parachute-like sails to use wind power to pull humans and sleighs) or dog sleighs. Stefan Hiernonimus and Rainer Wacker want to walk the historic route of Wegener afoot and want to accomplish it. They even use the Greenland expedition to optimize their strategy and

No expedition before has ever tried to cross Antarctica only afoot and on skis so far. All expeditions, even those who titled themselves "unsupported", used "kites". Stages of 170 kilometers (about 105.5 miles) per day can be reached with this technique. Others used depots at their routes. The POLARWALK will traverse the South Pole only afoot for the first time in history!
